Please join us in prayer for the repose of the soul of Father Robert Thames, who passed away yesterday, Oct. 22, 2024.
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
Fr. Thames was born on Sept. 22, 1938, and baptized at Our Lady of the Assumption, Decatur, Texas, on Nov. 18, 1938.
He was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Dallas-Fort Worth on June 27, 1964. After serving successively as Assistant Pastor at Saint Pius X, Dallas, Saint Anthony, Longview, and Saint James in Dallas, Fr. Thames was incardinated as a priest for the Diocese of Fort Worth on June 15, 1970, where he served as the Pastor of Sacred Heart, Breckenridge, and St. Francis of Assisi, Graford, and provided pastoral care of San Patricio Mission in Throckmorton.
From 1979 to 1983, Father Thames joined Maryknoll and was assigned to Bolivia. He returned to the Diocese of Fort Worth and served as the Pastor of Sacred Heart, Breckenridge, before serving in Mexico from 1986 to 1998 and in Bolivia from 1998 until his death.
In accordance with his wishes, Father Thames will be buried in Cabezas, Bolivia. Funeral plans are currently pending.
