Prison Ministry SJB

St. John Prison Ministry primary goal is to provide religious or spiritual support to both Catholics and non-Catholics, believing and non-believing inmates.  Additional goals are to prevent recidivism and control prison delinquency. Volunteers ( Marilyn and Bob Pfeifer, Philip Smallwood ) at Lindsay State Jail, a 2000 bed facility located in Jacksboro meet from 7-9 every second and third Monday of the month. Presently about 60 inmates attend the services.  The Pfeifers and Mr. Smallwood also visit the women’s pre-parole facility in Bridgeport every 1st and 4th Monday from 7-9 P.M. The ladies reside in a 200 bed facility and there are usually 20 ladies attending services. Activities may include bible studies, small group discussions centered on the Great Books program, RCIA materials, Stations of the Cross, Rosary, Chaplet of Diving Mercy, and other topics pertinent to the Catholic faith. Fathers  hear confessions and say mass for the inmates once every month.

Anyone interested in serving as a prison volunteer should contact Marilyn Pfeifer at 940-748-2898.
